Review | Wet N Wild Megalast Lipsticks

Has it really been nearly two weeks since my last post? Just when life was settling down, the universe threw me a curveball and I’ve been busy trying not to strike out. At least I’ve been using that time to get to know the Wet N Wild Megalast Lipsticks and put together a collective review of the five that I own.

No doubt you have seen and heard about these lipsticks before; Wet N Wild is one of the best and most affordable drugstore brands out there (before E.L.F. made its drugstore debut and even then I find myself ogling the WnW display more often). These lipsticks retail for $1.99 at most stores but on most days you can find a BOGO deal at every other drugstore.

To be honest, I am not sure what differentiates these from the Silk Finish line that goes for $0.99 but if I had to guess it is: the finish (it’s in the name, duh), the price (obviously), and the wearability of the shades.

The Megalast line is definitely matte if not close to it, which as you can guess makes the formula a little dry and a little difficult to work with. Some of them anyway. If I had the time perhaps I could do individual reviews, maybe for future purchases. A few of the ones I own apply normally and the others take a few moments to warm up on my lips and apply without tugging.

Annoying, yes can be, however I tend to apply these lipsticks in more of a dabbing motion which does give them time to warm up a little and apply smoothly, if I wanted to do that. These lipsticks, the darker shades especially, are very pigmented and on most days at work I wouldn’t want them to show at their full potential.

Speaking of work, I do think that the shade selection of the Megalasts is more, shall we say grown up? than the Silk Finishes. The latter are very silky, satiny, shiny, and bright. The Megalast line, while it does have a few bright shades of its own, has a wider selection with more work-friendly (even fall-friendly if we’re talking seasonal) choices. Then again, every store carries differing shades and I could have missed a few and therefore be totally wrong.

What I tried to do with these swatches was to fully swatch the color on top with a small dab at the bottom, like an exclamation mark! How it looks on bottom is how I usually wear them.

Longevity? Pretty good I must say. They don’t survive meals but they certainly survive the eighty cups of coffee I have before lunch. When I look at all the lipsticks and lip products I own I see a pretty decent variety yet I keep reaching for these and I keep looking at swatches online to get more. (At the time of writing I own a few more that are not pictured here.) At $2 a piece, I may own the entire line in no time.
