File this under “read about it for months and finally gave into the hype.” I don’t know how many times I read about the Rimmel Stay Matte powder before I caved and mostly because I had a coupon. But can I also file this under “worth the hype”?
I first heard about this product on the /r/makeupaddiction subreddit where people swear by it and it has a holy grail status. Of course, way back then I had volumes to learn about makeup and didn’t understand what the use was. (I still have loads to learn but not volumes.)
If you read my Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless, I mention that it never set fully matte and another problem or two. Well, I am happy to report that this powder has fixed that.
The shade in question is Translucent and costs $4.99 at Target, however Rimmel products are 20% like every other week with their Cartwheel app. The 14g of product come in very basic packaging: plastic pan and clear plastic lid that doesn’t quite screw on. But how can you not fall in love with the crown embossed on the powder?
To apply it I use a velour puff, like Tati from GlamLifeGuru does to press it into my skin. I bought a two pack at Target for less than $2 and if anyone knows how to clean or wash them, leave a comment please 🙂
At first I was skeptical and unsure, worried about a placebo effect, but now that I’ve been using it for almost a month I see why so many people swear by this. It promises five hours of matte wear time before requiring reapplication which is true if you’re not doing much, I think that is a given. If you’re on the go you will need a touch up sooner than later, however this is not going to cake up on the skin.
Most important for me is that it does mattify my foundation and I no longer worry about foundation transferring onto my clothes when I change out of my pajamas. When my Essence compact powder runs out I will probably keep one of these in my purse. I definitely recommend this product, me and half the internet anyway haha.
Bis gleich!
Lovely post, my favourite powder of all time 🙂

I am a huge fan of this pressed powder as well (and of Tati!) Great post!

Thanks! I’m just getting back into watching Tati but some of her “advice” is a little iffy

Really? I haven’t been subscribed to her for too long, but I will have to be careful in the future. I am always a bit wary when gurus have their own makeup line. Any brands and partners on it usually skew their reviews…

Same, all these “collabs” turn me off. I love that Tati uses so much drugstore stuff but after she reccommended using baking soda for your face I was like “Stick to reviews girl”

Hahaha I haven’t seen her do anything like that (thank goodness

I love this powder for summer when I don’t need a lot, but I usually like to stay very matte and this just doesn’t do it for me. But it’s a nice product to have 🙂

At least it is inexpensive and pretty! Haha What do you use the rest of the year? I also like to be very matte and carry blotting paper and powder in my purse

I use the Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder! It’s quite intense but I love it. When I use it I don’t need to top up throughout the day, well worth the splurge! I do still like the Rimmel Stay Matte though 🙂

Great review, I got this powder recently, I will be trying it out soon too! I clean my powder sponges like my beauty blender – with some antibacterial carex soap and warm water. I know powder sponges are not the same as puffs, but I would clean the puffs in the same way.

Carex soap? Where do I find that?

I don’t know where you live, but it’s a popular liquid hand soap you can find in regular drugstores in many countries. Although not in all the countries for sure, maybe only in some European ones.
