Even though I had no clue who Carli Bybel was when this palette launched this fall I quickly fell into the hype. A custom palette from BH Cosmetics, one of my favorite brands, pretty swatches on Instagram, and affordable? I signed up on their waitlist immediately. After months of admiring it in my collection I finally put it to the test and here are my thoughts. Enjoy the swatch porn!
Can someone help with this annoying habit of not using palettes for months because they are too pretty? I believe this arrived in late November early December and I only started using it, albeit sparingly, last month.
Unfortunately I was unable to capture the outer appearance of the palette, here is a link to it on the BH Cosmetics website. The white cover was throwing off my camera’s white balance, but it was not for a lack of trying!
The inside is white with gray pinstripes, it contains ten eyeshadows, four highlighters, and a mirror. Beneath the mirror is a Carli Bybel quote: “Aspire to inspire.”
The packaging is cardboard but sturdy enough to take around. I would still be very cautious with it.
The color palette for these eyeshadows is right up my alley with the shimmery neutrals, shimmery browns, a couple of mauve-ish plums, yes please! Shimmer may be a keyword for me but there are a couple of mattes in here too.
Details. Do you see why I didn’t want to touch this palette? The flowers stamped into the highlighters took this palette to another level for me, imagining it without the stamping I don’t know that I would have been as quick to but it. (The shadow on the right is so strange, it appears gray-green in pan but swatches some kind of brown.)
If you like rose and plum tones, here you are. Every shadow swatches so well, smooth, pigmented, soft, lovely. This is a collection of shadows that I could easily take on vacation and nothing else. Not sure that these would do for a natural or office look but that’s boring anyway.
The middle row adds some depth to the shade range with the browns. Though these are velvet soft to the touch and apply and blend well enough, they do get powdery. That isn’t something has ever bothered me but I know it is a peeve for many. I certainly advise using a primer with these.
The four highlighters in this are either two shades of pink or shades of bronze. I wish there was a white or a champagne in here for variety but these are stunning nonetheless. Who said you have to use these exclusively as highlight anyway? If you’re looking for a sheen type of finish then sorry, these are quite shimmer in my opinion.
Whenever I pull out this palette I stare in awe for a good moment before beginning. Once applied, and with a good primer, they stay on. I have not experienced fading, transfer, or fallout really. All of this from a palette that costs $12.50. I don’t know how much is in each pan but with a combined 47.6g I’d say there is a fair amount in each pan.
If you’ve tried it I’d love to know what you think or what looks you’ve created with the Carli Bybel Palette.
Bis gleich and don’t forget to follow!
