Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Radiant Lights

Going through my posts and strangely, I have yet to mention a Makeup Revolution highlighter. Today I am fixing that with their Vivid Baked Highlighter in Radiant Lights. Tati mentioned these in a video not long ago and I respectfully disagree with her opinion. (I also found her lack of brand research alarming and uncharacteristic.) Find out why!

Forgive me but I feel that first I must cover what Tati did not in terms of brand background. Makeup Revolution is a British drugstore brand notorious for making affordable dupes of popular mid-range to high end products. They came to Ulta about six or seven months ago and they turned two last month. And I really like them 🙂

This is their Vivid Baked Highlighter in Radiant Lights, I also own Golden Lights and have no interest in Peach Lights. They all come in the round plastic packaging: black pan, fragile clear lid with writing that easily wears off. In each one you get 10g of product, baked into a sort of swirl.

Of course because it is a baked powder it has a course texture and it tends to kick up powder whether you are using a finger or brush to swatch and apply it. I tried using a fan brush for this but I prefer my BH Cosmetics #11 brush as it is more precise and precision is key when dealing with what can be a powdery highlight.

This really is a cool, pink toned, almost silvery highlighter that is probably “wrong” for my olive skin tone but I like it anyway. When worn it looks like a less intense version of the photo above, of course you can build it up but I think it tends to get shimmery. Longevity is decent. It won’t fade in a few hours but it won’t survive the day. I don’t think this emphasizes pores unless you look very, very close, but it doesn’t hide them either.

As for why I disagree with Tati, simply I like these and I don’t mind the texture. In her video she only mentions the bad or “scratchy” texture of these and that’s enough for her to dislike them. Yes they are rough to the touch, or at least this one is, but they are not rough to the face. Also, she swatched it and said she didn’t like the finish but if there is one thing I have learned lately it is that finger swatches are not always accurate and we shouldn’t go off those alone no matter how pretty they are.

Overall, for a $6 highlighter and for its near-shimmery and rough flaws, I like still like it. If you have six bucks to spare, plus Ulta runs BOGO 1/2 off often, why not?
